Recently, Stanton Township Public School students had the opportunity to participate in the 14th Annual Western U.P. Science Fair and Science Engineering Festival. Below is a wonderful summary of the event written by Shawn Opplinger, Director of the Western UP Center for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education. Three hundred fifty students in grades 4-8 submitted projects to the 14th Annual Western Upper Peninsula Science Fair on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 The event took place at the Michigan Tech’s Memorial Union Ballroom (MUB). During the fair, the science fair participants, their families and general public had opportunity to participate in the Science & Engineering Festival. More than 20 student organizations from Michigan Tech and Finlandia University conducted hands-on activities that engaged participants in science and engineering concepts. Award winning projects from the fair will be displayed at the Carnegie Museum in Houghton from April 10- May 11, 2012. A grand opening and Family Science & Engineering Evening are planned for 6:30-8 pm, Tuesday, April 10, at the Carnegie Museum. Open to all. Approximately 145 Michigan Tech faculty, staff and students, in addition to Finlandia students, area teachers, and community members assisted with this exciting event. The Western UP Science Fair is sponsored by the Western Upper Peninsula Center for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education, Michigan Tech Chapter of American Society for Engineering Education and the Carnegie Museum.
